Dog Portrait

We had a Judy Holley teach
Dog Portraits
the other day!

We all worked on the same dog portrait
so we could learn the fusing technique...

What I LOVE is how very different each persons dog is!

Here's our dog show of bench puppies!
The dog on the left was starting to fall over, that's why his head is wonky...LOL!

So, I'm guessing I'm pretty predictable...
I sent that picture to my daughter and she guessed which one was mine
RIGHT away!!!

Here's my dog...

I used the a black fabric that had stars on it for the eyes,
and why not use the stars!
So my dog has stary eyes!

Here are the others close up...
The dog on the left is starting to fall over, that's why his head is wonky...

Aren't they great!!!

Go do a FUN something today!!!

Sew the pieces of life together!
They make a BEAUTIFUL quilt!!!

Shop Hop!!!

WOW!
Talk about FUN!!!

Roaming around on the
Row by Row
website got me in trouble!

There's this little shop in
Ellerslie, GA
Sunday Best Quiltworks.

In checking out the different rows
at each shop,
I found out this shop was having
Gail Garber
come teach a class!
Gail Garber
is from New Mexico and I have her book,
Flying Colors!
When will I be seeing her again?
So,
it's ONLY 4 hours away...
why not?
YES,
I signed up for her class that was this past Thursday!
FUN!
BUT...
why make a straight shot there?
I had to find other quilt shops on the way...

Crestview, FL has
Margie's...
FABULOUS shop and Bernina Dealer!
Here's their Row.
YES...I had to have it!!!
Isn't it beautiful!!!

Then we went to Opp, AL.
What's in Opp?
T J's Fabrics!

Here's how we found this shop...
I asked Vicki Crooms if she could/wanted to go on this 3 day adventure with me...
she said yes!
Vicki actually is the one who said Opp has a quilt shop...
so we went!
This is a Pharmacy and Fabric store combination...
Vicki was in heaven!
(She's a Pharmacist.)

Open the door...
AND...

CANDYLAND!!!

EVERYTHING is bright and cheerful!!!

ALL fabrics are happy and content...
ALL fabrics were cheerful and bright..
They were happy to be there...
But happy to go home with me, too!!!

But they DID want to ALL go home with me!!!
This was pure heaven for me!!!
I LOVE BRIGHTS!!!
And BOTH of us made a GOOD purchase!!!

They did inform us about their website!
It's only bright fabrics, no batiks, civil war, or 30's...
And a FABULOUS staff!!!
If you can go out of your way to go to Opp, AL...
GOOOO!!!!

Don't you feel a day trip coming on....

there's a map of
EVERY

They have addresses and websites on there too!
Talk about AMAZING!

So,
in roaming around...
I kinda got in trouble!  HAHA!
There's a shop in Columbus, GA,
Sunday Best Quiltworks,
Gail Garber (from New Mexico) will be teaching there tomorrow!
Gail's work in simply AMAZING!
And...
the BEST part?
It's ONLY 4.5 hours from my house!!!
I CAN DO THAT!!!

DONE!

Simple, right?

Well...
There's a few shops on the way....LOL!
And...
IF, I come home a different way...
YES,
there are a few more shops!!!!
BLAHAHAHA!!!
So,
the final schedule is...
3 shops today on the way to Columbus, GA.
Class with Gail tomorrow,
2 shops on a different route home Saturday!
Sounds like a great time to me!!!

Row by Row anyone?

This is such a fun little project!

I caught wind of
Row by Row last summer when I was at
a guild teaching classes.
The lady I stayed with had several completed
and it just looked like a fun project
WITH A PURPOSE!

And...
what is that purpose?
to
SUPPORT OUR LOCAL QUILT SHOPS!

If we don't shop there
and
support our local quilt shop...
WE WILL LOSE THEM!!!

So...
I'm doing my part...
here is my first ROW!!!

This is from
Quilt Among Friends
In
Arlington, TX
A friend sent me the ones from there!
Isn't this too cute?
The kit came with most everything
fused and die cut!
Simple!
I did add an extra little duckie...
the one riding in the umbrella to the left.
This is only fused so far,
no details yet.
So CUTE!

GO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL QUILT SHOP!!!

Tree Challenge

WOW!
What a CRAZY few weeks!!!
LIFE!
Nothing major,
but lots of real stuff to take care of!
Why does it always happen at once?

AND,
one of the things I had to get completed is this...

I am part of an ART Group in my guild.
We came up with an group project idea
of a tree.
Everyone who wants to participate will get a section
of the tree to interpret any way they wish.
The only rule is your limb has to be at a certain place on each side
so it can connect to the next limb.

Pretty cool!

I think 17 people are doing this!

One person is creating the tree trunk.
Then the rest of us are each doing a section of the tree.

I got a top section of the tree!
This means mine doesn't connect to anyone!

And here's how it started...

The tree limb had to connect at the bottom corner and be that wide.
But it's really too wide for
an 18"x18" square!
So,
it had to split so it could become smaller!
(Don't you LOVE the sky fabric?!)

Then,
the birds I wanted are Chickadees!
They're so cute!
The original plan...
YES, it changed!
was to make them realistic.
BUT,
I saw a scrap of this great fabric...
and...
you KNOW...
the bird HAD to be made from it!
And I couldn't have just ONE lone bird!

So,
here's my AUDACIOUS birds!

They all had to have crazy colored bodies!
It all started with the bird on the top right...
crazy bird!

...........

A funny little story...
My Dad, (Whom I'm caretaker for),
always called me "Birdie" as a nick name.
I asked him, a few years ago, why that nick name?
He said I was flighty!
Like an airhead!
Thanks Dad!
NOT!!!!
I actually have always had a carefree
attitude about things.
I don't get worked up or bent out of shape
over things that are out of my control.
And I KNOW,
things usually work out the way they should.
Even from a young age,
this is me!
I took offense to why my Dad called me
"Birdy"!
But,
The truth is...
he has never understood me!
God made me a this way!
I LOVE life!
I LOVE people!
I'm CREATIVE and HAVE to create!!!
And so, as I've gotten older,
I'm kind of liking birds now!
I can embrace the difference between me
and my other family members.
And I can see why they don't understand me...
I'm different from the way they're made...
and I LOVE being ME!!!

...........

Then the leaves came...
I wanted more leaves, but didn't want to take away from the birds.
Oh my!
The dilemmas we get into!
LOL!
And aren't they FUN!

I had everything pinned down for a few days while I looked at it...
then decided...
just go with it!
so I removed all the pins,
held my breath,
and pressed it all down!

I LIKE IT!

Here is my Tree Challenge completed!
AUDACIOUS CHICKADEES!

Everything is quilted!
We decided as a group to put a facing on our blocks
so the bindings wouldn't distract from our connecting pieces.

This has to be handed in so the WHOLE project
can hang in the USA
(University of South Alabama)
Library!
This will hang there for 2 months!
Once it's all up and hanging,
I'll post a picture of the whole project!
It's going to be SUPER COOL!!!

Stitch those pieces of life together!
They make a BEAUTIFUL quilt!
