Then sew all the other hexagones around it!

Here we go!

AND...

EPP FUN continued...

 EPP FUN...

Continued!

This is where we left off...

There are 36 1" Hexagons cut EXACTLY the same!

HOW do you get them EXACTLY the same?
By using an acrylic template!
Like this one...

Use this acrylic template to cut out all your fabric hexagons
EXACTLY the same,
then wrap them onto the die cut paper hexagons.

NOW...
We're going to whip stitch these together
creating hexagon flowers.
Notice how I've turned each flower one time
so each flower is different from the next.

This is what you have now!
6 hexagon flowers made from the EXACT
same cuts of fabric,
but look totally different!

How COOL is this!?!?

Now...
let's make something with it!

They make a BEAUTIFUL quilt!

English Paper Piecing - EPP

EPP Creative fun!

English paper piecing is a lot of things....

  • Simple,
  • Nothing new,
  • Been around for a LONG time,
  • Hand work,
  • Old fashioned...some say...
  • Keeps hands busy
  • (and minds fresh),
  • Different ways to do it, as most anything,
  • Modern?
  • Creative?
  • Fun?

Well...
Like anything else,
If you take a fresh look at it
You can really have some FUN!!!

Here's what we're starting with,
A FUN, MODERN, FUNKY fabric!

Then we're fussy cutting 36 hexagons
EXACTLY
the same!
Can you see the repeat?

Stay tuned in
as I share the progress on this FUN project!

How do you get the EXACT repeat every time?

From One Design to Another

From One Design to Another

This is ONE of the classes I'm teaching at the Mancuso Quilt Fest June 25-29.
Registration ends June 17
Sign up soon!
Class is Live

Let's have some fun thinking OUTSIDE the box! In this class, FROM ONE DESIGN TO ANOTHER, we'll learn how to look at a free motion quilting design and change it a little to create a different design. Sometimes, this is just realizing what works for you, how do I simplify this design, I like this but want it fuller/slimmer, or what can I come up with? YES, the goal is to take the "blinders" off and get you seeing ALL the possibilities! You'll really get to see my "What If" mentality in this class. You'll make a sampler in this class. (Designs change as students sometimes suggest designs and every class moves at a different pace.)
This is a 3 hour class, full of fun designs, creating, and possibilities!

Virtual Quilt Shows

Virtual Quilt Shows?

How does that work?

I'm about to teach for the second time in a Virtual Quilt Show!  Each Venue has a different set of rules and requirments for the instructors as well as the show organizers have different desires for their show.  So, this new venue for teaching and quilt shows will probably be different each time.

There are some advantages to the Virtual classes:
1. You will not forget something at home! LOL! (We've ALL done this!)
2. If you make a mistake cutting while in class, you have your whole stash right there with you!
3. NO LUGGING big HEAVY machines around!
4. No packing up and unpacking when you get home!
5. You're in your own home, using your nice machine!
6. You're in the privacy of your own home!
7. You're in your comfortable surroundings!
8. You can still go to the bathroom when you want...(But it's nice to be in your own bathroom).
9. You can still ask ALL the questions you want!!!
10.  Each teacher should have different camera views when teaching.
11. There will NOT be people in front of you...you'll be able to see the demo!!!
12. You get to see some of our machines...and we're comfortable on our own machine too.

So, TRY A VIRTUAL CLASS!!!
The Mancuso QuiltFest is coming up JUNE 25-29, 2020 and registration for classes has already begun!

I'll be teaching 3 classes:
1. All About Threads!   This is a fun lecture and you'll learn a lot about all different threads!
2. Beginning Ruler Work on your Domestic machine!  We start at the beginning on how to hold a ruler, how to work with a ruler, and how to thingk with a ruler...It's all a little different than we're used to.  You'll learn ALL the basics!  Then we'll take a short break and come back and create designs with the ruler!  There is a kit fee for this class...there's a special ruler I've created, with 4 different sides to it, so you don't have to spend a lot of money on rulers just to see if you even like working with rulers.  This is a FUN class and opens up a whole new world of free motion quilting!
3. From one Design to Another - Oh, the fun we have in this class!!!  We think outside the box and learn to manipulate designs!!!  I try really hard to get you to play around and relax and ENJOY quilting in this class!
Come on ladies...take a class!
LET'S HAVE SOME FUN!!!

Dimensional Slow Stitching

Dimensional Slow Stitching
(Hand Stitching)

Let me first say...
I AM NOT A HAND STITCHER!

LOL!!!

As a WonderFil Thread Educator I've had to learn
SLOW STITCHING,
or
hand stitching...
(that just seems like a NASTY word!)

Let me please tell you...
It's actually quit enjoyable!

WonderFil Threads carries
SUE SPARGO books,
wools,
wool kits,
AND...
MAKES SUE SPARGO THREADS!!!

Sue Spargo has a book called
"Creative Stitching"
(second edition)
and it's FABULOUS!!!
Every design is in step by step directions!
So, this is the book I've been working with
for the past year and a half.

My art group is doing a fun project and some of us
were going to do demonstrations on hand slow stitching
at our next meeting, (which was cancelled).
But I wanted to share some of the
DIMENSIONAL STITCHING
I was going to share with my group.

(The panel at the top of this post I quilted an bound,
That is what I'm working on.)

 BLUE FLOWER

Woven Picot is what I chose to do on each petal.
This was fun, easy stitching,
and FAST results!

Each WOVEN PICOT is a little different
as each petal of a flower is different,
and it gave me a chance to play with this a bit.

Isn't it PRETTY!!!

Now...
As I usually will do...
Let's laugh at my imperfections...

Here's my mistake...

On the very LAST petal...

Can you see there are 5 strands of threads being woven through
to create the Picot?
You're supposed to keep them in stitched order!
LOL!
Can you see at the bottom right...
the last 2 threads have been used in the wrong order
starting at the top of the Picot!

Do I REALLY want to take all this out?

NOOOOO!!!!!

Let's see how it turned out...

A trained eye can see theres a mistake...

But...

I CAN LIVE WITH IT!!!

Don't add more stress to your life than there already is!!!
This is JUST a sample!!!

IT'S OK TO NOT BE PERFECT!!!!
(That's a lonely place, "Perfect"!)

As my daughter told me when she was 5 years old...
"Mommy, I can't walk on water."
That was a REAL wake up call!

I've worked on letting go of my need to be
"PERFECT"!
AND
23 years later...
I can live with imperfections!!!
AND
It's a happier place than "PERFECT"!

TRY IT!!!

They make a BEAUTIFUL quilt!
